Academic Council

The Academic Council is the highest representative body of the National Defence Academy. Its authority is determined by the Law of Georgia on Higher Education and the Statute of the National Defence Academy.

 

The powers of the Academic Council:

 

·         Reviews and submits the strategic plan for the Academy's development to the Rector.

·         Approves educational and research programs based on submissions from the Bachelor's Program, Master's Program, Junior Officer Training Battalion, Junior Officer Training School, Training Support and Development Center, Sports and Physical Training Service, and Distance Learning Center.

·         Promotes the integration of higher education into the European space, fosters cooperation among higher education institutions in terms of curricula and programs, and supports mobility and the creation of integrated training and research programs.

·         Approves the Academy's internal regulations, the Academy's Code of Ethics, and the disciplinary guidelines for the Academy’s civil personnel.

·         Approves the unified rules for hiring academic staff, including teachers and qualified invited specialists.

·         Elects the Head of the Academy's Quality Assurance Service.

·         Approves the rules for electing the Academy's management bodies.

·         Considers the draft Statute of the Academy.

·         Approves the regulations for various structural units within the Academy.

·         At the beginning of the academic year, upon the Bachelor's Council's proposal, approves the coefficients for the Unified National Exams.

·         As stipulated by Georgian legislation, upon the Master's Department proposal decides whether to assign a coefficient for the Unified Master's Exam. If a coefficient is assigned, it approves the coefficients for specific parts of the exam. If no coefficient is assigned, candidates who meet the minimum competency threshold for the Master's program may use the assigned coefficients for the determined exam components.

·         Approves the rules for recognizing academic credits.

·         Submits an annual report to the Ministry.

·         Approves the rules for evaluating educational and research work based on recommendations from the Quality Assurance Service.

·         Considers the criteria and scope of scholarships and submits recommendations to the Rector.

·         Approves the instructions for the preparation, presentation, and defense of bachelor's theses by Junkers, as well as master's theses by the College, upon the recommendation of the Bachelor's Department.

·         Approves the rules for involving Junkers in scientific grant projects, local and international conferences, and research events.

·         Approves the annual report of the Deputy Rector-Chief of Staff.

·         Exercises any other powers granted by Georgian legislation.
