In 2022, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced a competition for the 2023 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Safeguards Internship for graduates and young specialists. The competition was open worldwide, and only eight positions were available.
Tornike Kimeridze, assistant professor of the National Defence Academy, participated in the competition. The international organization officially informed the Georgian side about Tornike Kimeridze's successful passing of all competition stages and enrollment in the course.
Since 1996, Georgia has been a member state of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and in 2023, it is the first time in the history of Georgia, when the candidate nominated by Georgia, Tornike Kimeridze, assistant professor of the National Defence Academy, was able to pass the above-mentioned competition and was enrolled in an internship course. The course included training on the following topics: Inspector of Nuclear Non-Proliferation Guarantee States and Nuclear Safety Officer.
The program aimed to expand participants' knowledge of peaceful uses of nuclear technology and raise awareness at the state level.
