National Defence Academy of Georgia celebrated its 105th anniversary

The David Aghmashenebeli National Defence Academy of Georgia celebrated its 105th anniversary with a ceremony honoring the 10th graduating class of bachelor's programs and the 19th graduating class of the Candidate Courses at the parade ground. The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, the Minister of Defence, Irakli Chikovani, the Commander of the Defense Forces, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, and the Rector of the Academy, Brigadier General Mamia Balakhadze, all congratulated the personnel of the National Defence Academy on the successful completion of their studies. In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of the National Defence Academy and the role of young officers in strengthening the defense capabilities of Georgia.

This year, 70 Junkers completed their bachelor's degrees, while 49 trainees finished the Junior Officer Training School Candidate Course. Graduated Junkers, holding the rank of lieutenant, also obtained bachelor's degrees in their respective fields. Candidates of the officer training course who already had a bachelor's degree before joining underwent the officers’ basic military training.

The history of the National Defence Academy of Georgia dates back to 1918 when Georgia's state independence was restored. Following the declaration of independence, there was an immediate need to train national cadres of officers. This led to the establishment of the "Junkers’ Military School" on August 20, 1919. This date was determined as the day of the David Agmashenebeli National Defence Academy of Georgia.
