The David Aghmashenebeli National Defence Academy of Georgia is 106 years old. In connection with the Academy's Day, a ceremony dedicated to the graduation of the eleventh bachelor's and twentieth candidate courses was held at the parade ground.
Key figures in attendance included the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili; the Minister of Defence, Irakli Chikovani; the Commander of the Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili; and the Rector of the Academy, Brigadier General Mamia Balakhadze. They congratulated the personnel, Junkers, and trainees on their successful completion of studies, emphasizing the Academy's significance and the critical role that young officers play in enhancing Georgia's defence capabilities.
This year, 76 Junkers graduated with bachelor's degrees, while 46 students completed the Candidate Course at the Junior Officer Training School. The graduating Junkers were promoted to the rank of lieutenant and earned their bachelor's degrees in their respective specialties. Meanwhile, the students of the Officer Training Candidate Course, who already held bachelor's degrees upon enrollment, received their basic military education as officers.
During the event, the President of Georgia, the Minister of Defence, the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, and the Rector of the Academy inaugurated a new educational facility, the "Museum of Occupation."
The history of the Georgian National Defence Academy dates back to 1918, following Georgia's regaining of state independence. Immediately after this declaration, the need for training national officer cadres became a priority. On August 20, 1919, the "Junkers Military School" commenced its operations, a date now celebrated as the Day of the David Aghmashenebeli National Defence Academy of Georgia.
