Lithuanian Chief of Defence visits Georgia

Lieutenant General Arvydas Pocius Chief of Defence of the Republic of Lithuania is paying an official visit to Georgia. Lithuanian high ranking military official was received today by the Chief of Joint Staff of GAF General-Major Devi Chankotadze. During the meeting he briefed his foreign colleague on the security environment of the region and reforms being implemented in a defence field. The sides discussed the future plans of bilateral cooperation, Georgia’s participation in the ISAF operation and NATO integration.

Following the meeting Lithuanian Chief of Defence paid tribute to the memory of those Georgian heroes who sacrificed their lives to the unity of motherland and decorated the memorial with flowers.

Under the visit in Georgia, Lieutenant General Arvydas Pocius visited National Defence Academy in Gori. After taking tour of the Educational Complex Deputy Minister of Defence Andro Barnovi discussed the military education system with Mr. Arvydas Pociu. After the meeting Lieutenant General met with the Academy students and held the presentation on the armed forces of Lithuania, phases of their development and involvement in peace support operations. Furthermore, the National Defence Academy hosted the photo exhibition dedicated to the participation of the Lithuanian troops in the ISAF operation.

Chief of Defence of Lithuania also visited National Training Centre “Krtsanisi”. He will leave Georgia on April 12.
