This year, Lieutenant Colonel Omar Turmanidze, the Head of the Defense and Security Department at the National Defense Academy, along with third-year Junkers Beka Kupatadze, Ana-Maria Kebadze, and Mariam Terterashvili, participated in the 23rd Law of Armed Conflicts Competition organized by the International Institute of Humanitarian Law in Sanremo, Italy.
The competition is held annually to familiarize future military leaders with international humanitarian law and to develop their ability to work collaboratively with military professionals in a multinational environment. A thorough understanding of the law of armed conflict is essential for all military personnel, particularly officers, who bear the greatest responsibility for upholding legal norms during armed conflicts. Therefore, participating in this competition provides valuable experience and presents a significant challenge.
Additionally, participating in the Law of Armed Conflict Competition offers an opportunity to establish strong relationships between future Georgian and foreign officers, as Georgian officers will need to collaborate with their international counterparts in this field in the future.
A notable aspect of the event was a cultural evening, during which representatives of the Academy had the chance to promote Georgian culture and traditions while also learning about the cultures and traditions of other participating countries.
