Training for Gender Advisors

Today was the conclusion of the two day training for Gender Advisors, which is the third stage of their training. The military and civilian personnel working at the Defence sector are selected as Gender Advisors.

The ceremony was opened by the First Deputy Defence Minister Gocha Ratiani. During the speech he emphasized the importance of the training.

The First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament and the Head of Gender Equality Council of Parliament of Georgia, Manana Kobakhidze and NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security, Ambassador Marriet Schuurman also addressed to the audience.

In the framework of the training, the invited Experts Yvonne Schroeder and Tormod Overland introduced to the participants North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 in practice. The Representative of Women’s Information Center, Mamuka Gachechiladze discussed the responsibilities and Action Plan of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Master Sergeant Nino Grigalashvili of the GAF Training and Military Education Command shared her personnel experience regarding the woman’s role in peacekeeping operations to the Gender Advisors.

The above mentioned training will help the Advisors to deepen their knowledge and responsibilities that comes with the position, in order to provide support in terms of Gender Equality to their leadership and to use the acquired information in everyday activities.

The training is conducted by the support of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, National Defence Academy, NATO Liaison Office in Georgia and the Women’s Information center.
