The graduation ceremony for the Officers’ Candidate Course was held on the drill ground of the National Defence Academy in Gori. The solemn event was opened by the Georgian State Anthem performed by the Military Orchestra of the National Guard. Military personnel and invited guests paid a tribute to the memory of the heroes fallen for the territorial integrity of Georgia and in international missions.
After a minute of silence the Marine Attaché of the United States Marine Corps Lt. Col. Bill Conner on behalf of the U.S. Naval Academy handed over the signed flag to the Commandant of the Defence Academy in honor of the Georgian students of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy - Private Soso Makaridze and Private Besarion Gorjoladze who had been killed in a car accident in the U.S. a few months ago.
62 graduates took an oath and received the first military rank – lieutenant. They will continue study in various specialties and will be assigned to various structural units of the General Staff.
Deputy Defence Minister Ana Dolidze, the First Deputy Chief of General Staff of GAF, Brigade General Vladimer Chachibaia and acting Rector of the Defence Academy LTC Vasil Kopeikin congratulated the successful graduation of the Officers’ Candidate Course.
